The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
