Fly-tippers have dumped a mountain of garbage in a field in Oxfordshire.

The "environmental crisis unfolding in public view" is up to 150m (490ft) in length and 6m (20ft) tall.

The massive mound has materialized in a plot of land adjacent to the River Cherwell near Kidlington.

A local MP brought up the issue in parliament, declaring it was "risking an environmental emergency".

Protection organization reported the unlawful waste site was created approximately a month ago by an criminal network.

"This constitutes an environmental catastrophe unfolding in public view.

"Each day that goes by elevates the threat of hazardous seepage getting into the river system, poisoning fauna and putting at risk the wellbeing of the whole watershed.

"The Environment Agency must respond now, not in extended periods, which is their typical action timeframe."

Legal prohibition had been established by the Environment Agency.

It is difficult to recognize any individual items of rubbish as it seems to have been pulverized with earth blended.

Some of the garbage from the top of the mound has collapsed and is now merely five feet from the waterway.

The River Cherwell is a feeder stream of the River Thames, which signifies it flows through Oxford before meeting the Thames.

Parliament representative mentioned the cost of removing the waste would be significant

The MP asked the administration for support to eliminate the illegal site before it caused a inferno or was swept into the river system.

Informing parliament members on Thursday, he stated: "Illegal operators have discarded a massive amount of unlawful synthetic materials... amounting to hundreds of tonnes, in my district on a water-adjacent land next to the River Cherwell.

"River levels are growing and temperature readings indicate that the rubbish is also heating up, increasing the risk of blaze.

"The Environment Agency stated it has inadequate capabilities for compliance, that the anticipated cost of disposal is larger than the whole annual funding of the municipal authority."

Cabinet member said the administration had assumed responsibility for a struggling recycling sector that had caused an "widespread problem of unauthorized waste disposal".

She advised parliament members the organization had issued a prohibition notice to prevent more admission to the area.

In a announcement, the organization stated it was examining the situation and appealed for evidence.

It stated: "We share the community's concern about incidents like this, which is why we intervene against those responsible for waste crime."

A recently published study determined efforts to tackle major illegal dumping have been "severely neglected" even though the issue growing more extensive and more sophisticated.

A parliamentary committee suggested an independent "root and branch" inquiry into how "prevalent" illegal dumping is dealt with.
